Can Walking Reduce Tummy Fat?

13th Mar, 2020

Any kind of exercise is great for burning fat. But walking is a particularly good exercise for reducing tummy fat. Walking can mobilise your body to dip into fat reserves and burn stored fat in your tummy. But how long do you have to walk to hit that fat-burning zone? And what is the fat-burning zone?

Walk in the Optimal Fat-Burning Zone!

To reduce tummy fat you have to do exercise in the fat-burning zone. One of the most effective exercises to do in the fat-burning zone is walking. By walking at a medium to fast speed, you will typically reach a heart rate anywhere from 60 and 70 percent of your maximum heart rate. During this exercise intensity, the average person burns 85% of their calories from fat reserves. Make sure you check your heart rate while you are walking to find that 60 to 70 percent zone. Generally, in this zone, people will breathe a bit heavier and will break a sweat. Once you find that optimal fat-burning zone, try to complete every walk within that zone.

Aim for 45+ Minutes!

Now that you know how to get to the perfect fat-burning zone, you need to know how long to stay in that zone for maximum efficiency. Generally, you need at least 45 minutes of walking in the 60 to 70 percent zone to get your body to burn tummy fat. Any additional minute you will walk after will just make your walk more and more effective in reducing tummy fat. The optimal time to spend walking in your fat-burning zone is about 90 minutes. If you can find time to walk 90 minutes 5 times a week you will fulfil the amount of exercise recommended to reduce health risks and you will see great results when it comes to reducing tummy fat.

Aim for at least three 90-minute walks in the 60 to 70 percent heart rate zone to achieve optimal results and reduce tummy fat while walking. If you can add even more walks every week, you will see even better results.
